10,000 Merchant Outlets Join Visa to Support Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games

Singapore, 13 August 2010

Merchants in prime shopping belts and tourist districts do their bit to promote the Youth Olympic Games with eye-catching in-store signage and point-of-sale material

With the countdown to start of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games down to mere hours, Visa has rallied 10,000 merchant outlets from the food and beverage, retail goods and services sectors in Singapore to support its efforts in promoting the Games.

Merchants will help increase the visibility of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games by displaying Visa signage at the point-of-sale terminals in their stores. The signage features a unique design combining the Visa Youth Olympic Games branding and logo and the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games mascots.

Participating merchants include popular international chains and local stores located in major malls such as Vivocity and in Singapore’s prime shopping districts including Orchard Road, the Marina Bay area and Changi Airport.

Meranda Chan, Country Manager, Singapore and Brunei, Visa, said: “Merchants in Singapore are eager to welcome Youth Olympic Games athletes, fans and visitors from around the world and Visa is pleased to be able to help them be part of the Games excitement. The Singapore Games are also the first time in Olympic history that Visa has created an all-in-one card which combines ticketing, transit and payment on one card and we look forward to those who use the card being able to do so at the 10,000 merchants supporting Visa and the Games.”

Visa has been the worldwide sponsor and partner of the Olympic Games since 1986 and the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games is the 14th Olympic Games supported by Visa. The Youth Olympic Games will open on 14 August 2010 and close on 26 August 2010. The event is expected to attract 5,000 young athletes and officials and 370,000 spectators.[1]
