The Philippine Youth Olympic Team is in Singapore ready to take their place among the best athletes in the world, with a little help from their friends at Visa. Visa Country Manager for the Philippines and Guam Iain Jamieson gave Visa Prepaid cards to the nine young athletes to help them pay for food, drinks and souvenirs while they’re in Singapore competing in the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. They are competing in five sports – basketball, swimming, tennis, taekwondo and weight-lifting. Jamieson said: “We are proud to support the Philippine Youth Olympic Games team – representing their country on the global sports stage is a huge accomplishment, and to do it at such a young age is amazing. The whole country is watching as they show the whole world the true character and world-class skills of Filipino athletes. I wish them all the best of luck – and I hope they have lots of fun in Singapore, too!” Unlike credit and debit cards, prepaid cards give cardholders the option to “pay before” by loading funds onto the card, and then using the card to make payments. Visa Prepaid cards do not require a bank account, can be used to withdraw cash from ATMs and pay for goods and services – even online – anywhere that accepts Visa cards. Visa is the official payment services sponsor and the only card accepted at this inaugural event, the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore from 14 to 26 August.
