Visa and EPS Launch Visa Money Transfer in Hong Kong for PPS users

Hong Kong, 04 November 2009

New international money transfer service provides PPS users with a secure way to transfer funds overseas while saving time and money

Visa and EPS Company (Hong Kong) Ltd. (EPS) today announced the launch of Visa Money Transfer, the first international fund transfer service for PPS users. Using the Visa Money Transfer service via the PPS platform, customers of The Standard Chartered Bank and Wing Hang Bank will be able to send money overseas from their bank accounts to a Visa Credit card or a bank account that is linked to a Visa Debit card issued outside of Hong Kong.

Customers who use the service can transfer funds to 14 countries in nine currencies[1] either online or by phone, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Recipients will receive the funds through their Visa Debit or Credit card account and can use these funds at any of the 28 million Visa merchant outlets and 1.4 million Visa ATMs worldwide.[2]

Raymond So, General Manager of EPS Company Ltd said, “Launching an international money transfer service using Visa’s global network supports our ongoing strategy to expand beyond domestic bill payment services, and add to our suite of innovative offerings. Senders no longer have to visit an agent, worry about working hours or stand in queue to send money to their friends or family overseas. We are delighted to work with Visa to bring a value-add service to our 1.4 million PPS users by phases. EPS’s member banks will be able to avail of a ready platform that they can offer to their customers for international fund transfer service.”

According to the research company Aite Group[3], between 2006 and 2010 the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of global cross-border transfers will be eight percent and by 2010, global workers’ remittances will amount to an estimated US$456 billion, up from US$369 billion in 2007.

Sunny Cheung, Country Manager Hong Kong and Macau, Visa said, “Visa Money Transfer is designed for convenient and secure money transfers between individuals. With Visa Money Transfer through PPS, customers of Standard Chartered Bank and Wing Hang Bank can enjoy a convenient, round-the-clock money transfer service which allows them to send low-value funds to their families and friends in other countries at low cost.”

Visa Money Transfer customers can transfer up to HK$5,000 per transaction. Customers can find out more about the enrolment and service features of Visa Money Transfer from the PPS website (www.ppshk.com.hk).
