| 04 February 2008 | Hong Kong | | | Sixty one entries from Hong Kong make it to the final lap of Visa Olympic inspired photo competition | | | Hong Kong third in number of shortlisted entries in Asia Pacific | |
With the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games fewer than 200 days away, Visa today announced 24 entries from Hong Kong had been short listed in the final “China” category of the Visa Moving Images photography competition. The “China” category followed three earlier stages of the competition. These were themed upon the elements of the Olympic Games’ motto – Citius, Altius, Fortius (Faster, Higher, Stronger). The competition, which started on 1 October 2007 and closed on 31 December 2007 gave Visa cardholders in Asia Pacific four opportunities to win packages for two to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, including tickets to two events, sightseeing, airfares, accommodation and US$5,000 in spending money. In total, 61 photographs taken by Hong Kong amateur photographers made it to the final short list. “We are thrilled to see that Hong Kong had the second highest number of shortlisted entries in the ‘China’ category and the third most number of shortlisted entries in total over four categories. While China’s influence can be felt around the world through its culture, cuisine, people, festivals and landmarks, it was really interesting how our Hong Kong cardholders were able to capture both the traditional and modern aspects of this influence so creatively in their photographs,“ said James Dixon, Country Manager, Hong Kong and Macau, Visa International. Short listed entries from 17 markets ranging from Pakistan to the Philippines are now on display at the Visa Moving Images web gallery [www.visamovingimages.com] where members of the public can vote for their favorite photographs. Each visitor to the website will be able to cast one vote for up to three separate photographs per category. Photographers whose entries receive the highest number of votes in each category will each receive US$500 in prize money. “We hope that as many people as possible will view and vote for their favorite photographs in the Visa Moving Images web gallery. These are excellent works which capture the spirit of the Olympics and given the enthusiastic response we’ve received throughout the competition, there is definitely a palpable excitement around the upcoming games,” said James Dixon, Country Manager, Hong Kong and Macau, Visa International. Final judging of the winning photographs is currently underway. Each category winner will be chosen by a panel of judges comprising four professional photographers and Visa executive management. The four category winners will also be asked to submit up to eight photographs of their experience at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. One of these images will then go on to win an extra US$3,000 in prize money. # Note to Editors: Production quality images available on request.
