Beijing Olympics – 300 days to go.
 
With the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games less than 300 days away, a monthly tracking survey conducted by Visa International over the last three months shows increased Chinese consumer confidence that the Olympic Games will deliver benefits to China. When the survey was first conducted in July 2007, 68 percent of respondents said they thought the Beijing Olympic Games would provide “great financial and economic benefits to China”. By September this rose to 78 percent.

Data security deadline
 
Major Australian and New Zealand retailers who handle more than six million Visa card transactions annually and all service providers have a deadline of 31 December 2007 to achieve their Certificate of Compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI). These merchants are required to have conducted a security assessment by the end of the year and be working towards full compliance with the global standards, which outline 12 key measures for security management, procedures and network safety.

Visa unveils new contactless Visa Micro Tag
 
Visa recently introduced the Visa Micro Tag in the US – a new key fob payment device embedded with Visa payWave, Visa’s contactless technology feature. The Visa Micro Tag is designed to attach to a key ring and allows financial institutions to offer cardholders a companion device to an existing credit, debit or prepaid account. Designed to be small and durable, the Visa Micro Tag makes paying for purchases faster and more convenient.

See David Beckham with Visa Entertainment
 
Visa cardholders were given first opportunity to buy tickets for soccer superstar David Beckham's appearance in New Zealand on 1 December. Tickets went on sale through Visa Entertainment two days ahead of general public ticket sales for the match between Wellington Phoenix and the Los Angeles Galaxy at Westpac Stadium in Wellington. Beckham is expected to attract a crowd of up to 30,000 for the exhibition match.

Shop for a cure with bopo
 
Consumers who buy the pink bopo prepaid Visa card will be supporting Australia’s National Breast Cancer Foundation. Five dollars of the purchase price goes directly to the NBCF and three cents from every subsequent transaction will be donated for the life of the bopo card. More than 13,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. The ‘pink’ bopo is available for $14.95, or $24.95 to create your own picture card. First images submitted for Visa Olympic photography competition
 
Cardholders have begun submitting their entries to the Visa Moving Images web gallery in the hope that their photographs may be the ones that win them trips for two to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Cardholders can submit entries for the “Faster” category from now to 22 October, with short-listed entries displayed on the web gallery later in the month.

Builders Hardware wins retail excellence award
 
Congratulations to Builders Hardware Company. The Christchurch store won the Visa-sponsored award for retail excellence in the large format category at the 2007 Christchurch Top Shop Awards. Awards will be held in Auckland, Wellington and Waikato later this month.
