Using your card abroad
Visa cards are a safe and easy way to pay abroad. Here are some simple tips for carrying and using your Visa card when travelling.
Before you go:
- Memorise your PIN - this is the same Pin number you use at home and is used in the same way at ATMs and in some countries, over-the-counter
- Check the expiry date on your Visa card and ensure it is valid for the duration of the trip
- Photocopy your Visa card and passport, but keep the photocopies separate
- Jot down the Visa Global Customer Assistance number of the country you are travelling to
- Check out the locations of ATM's in the airport, city or town you are travelling to in advance
When you get there:
- If you have more than one card try not to them in the same place - that way you won't lose everything
- When you pay with your Visa card, check the information on the sales voucher before you sign or enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Use safety deposit boxes or room safes in hotels
- Keep a copy of all sales receipts and check them against your statement
